Ann “A.C.” Crispin Was The Heart & Soul of Writer Beware: Strauss Will Sink Writer Beware

“If you play second fiddle to someone, they are in a stronger position or are more important than you.”

The Write Agenda has received numerous emails from current and former SFWA members regarding the death of Ann “A.C.” Crispin. Many have voiced their opinions on the future of the SFWA’s sponsored site Writer Beware. It appears, based on these emails, that the heart and soul of the operation was Ann “A.C.” Crispin; not Victoria Strauss. Strauss, in the eyes of these observers, was the second fiddle and the future of Writer Beware is in jeopardy. Case in point, several of the emails pointed to Strauss’s hastily put together postings on Writer Beware (here and here); neither of which have provided any substantive or investigative research. One SFWA member stated that “it appears that Strauss needed to post something . . . anything . . . to give the appearance (even though the ship is taking on water) that everything is ok.” Several commentators clearly indicated that Stauss’ haphazard postings were readily available via Google and did little to convince readers that she presented anything new. (Yes, this is typical Writer Beware “reporting.” They have never engaged in real investigative reporting.)

Ann may have wanted Writer Beware to continue but the ability of Victoria Strauss to accomplish that remains to be seen.
