ABOUT US

We are a group of individuals, writers, want-to-be authors and inquisitive wordsmiths that have become “literally” numb from reading the numerous author help related blog posts. Many of  these postings are subjective and do not offer any substantial documentation regarding purported claims regarding publishers and other industry professionals. In addition, many of these sites have become nothing more than complaint boards that disseminate speculative claims without any substantiation.  We do not discount the validity of some claims made. However, we want to question both sides of an issue and to assist other authors in making informed decisions. If a fact is proven true we’ll support it. If a claim is twisted, slanted, incomplete, not updated (retracted) or smells like innuendo . . . we’ll challenge it.

We will not engage in self-promotion, post links to our books or encourage you, in any way, to purchase our books.

Title: “Sophronia Flex” Commentary Demonstrates the Need for Caution with Writer Beware
Relationship: *UPDATE by author
Report: The illustrious “Sophronia Flex” has reared her/his ugly head once again. This “Sophronia Flex” has appeared in different forms (and forums). Just like in Anthony Trollope’s “Barchester Towers.” To wit: “Rebellion had already reared her hideous head.”

September 26, 2010, “Sophronia Flex” gave Terry Eagleton, author of “Literary Theory: An Introduction,” a 5 Star review on Amazon. There have been no further reviews since that time from “Sophronia Flex.”

Reference: http://www.amazon.com/review/R27XGLXRMTF9JM

January 23, 2008, “Sophronia Flex” posted a “Consumer Comment” in this forum relative to some unsubstantiated claims against AuthorHouse. In addition, “Sophronia Flex” praised the work of WriterBeware.

September 26, 2000, “Sophronia Flex” gave Terry Eagleton, author of “Literary Theory: An
Introduction
,” a 5 Star review on Thrift Books.

Reference: http://www.thriftbooks.com/viewDetails.aspx?ISBN=0816612412

In this new posting, (September 1, 2011) “Sophronia Flex” once again offers the highest praise for Writer Beware, Victoria Strauss and Ann “A.C.” Crispin. The Write Agenda has proven that the “respect” for Writer Beware, Victoria Strauss and Ann “A.C.” Crispin is waning. In a recent posting, “American Book Publishing ‘Investigation’ Research Released: No Proof of Victoria Strauss’ Claims,” they shared the results of their findings. Please see:

https://thewriteagenda.wordpress.com/2011/05/31/american-book-publishing-investigation-research-released-no-proof-of-victoria-strauss-claims/

Most concerning of all in “Sophronia Flex’s” commentary above is this (new) unsubstantiated claim: “their premises were being raided by the FBI….” This ranks up there with the claim made by Writer Beware:  “American Book Publishing has been the focus of at least one police investigation.” The Write Agenda has proven that this allegation made by Writer Beware, Victoria Strauss and Ann “A.C.” Crispin is false. For more information, see:

https://thewriteagenda.wordpress.com/victoria-strauss/

It is exactly these kind of false, defamatory and libelous postings that give The Write Agenda its purpose. If you really want to see an example of how Writer Beware conducts fact finding, please see our posting “Proof That Ann “A.C.” Crispin’s Fact-Finding and Research Skills Are Questionable” here:

https://thewriteagenda.wordpress.com/2011/08/28/proof-that-ann-%E2%80%9Ca-c-%E2%80%9D-crispin%E2%80%99s-fact-finding-and-research-skills-are-questionable/

If there is anything in this commentary by “Sophronia Flex” that we do agree with is this: “Let the writer beware.” We would strongly encourage “Sophronia Flex” to produce evidence that American Book Publishing was “raided by the FBI.” Otherwise, “Sophronia Flex” should 1) admit that this this is a lie, and 2) encourage Victoria Strauss, Ann “A.C.” Crispin and Writer Beware to admit that their claims regarding American Book Publishing are also lies.

With all sources of information available to us today, it’s sometimes difficult to know which are based on facts, to discern whether false information was provided or whether the whole story was communicated. While some Web sites, and their commentators, began as providers of information based on facts and or unbiased opinions, many over time have been corrupted either in whole or in part to a point of view or ideology. In our recent posting, Is Ann ‘A.C.’ Crispin Perpetuating and Assisting Disney with the Theft and Exploitation of another’s creative work? Pirates Of The Caribbean: Price Of Freedom . . . Infringement? we questioned whether Ann “A.C.” Crispin’s involvement in the book deal for Pirates Of The Caribbean: Price Of Freedom, may both be perpetuating and assisting Disney with the theft and exploitation of Royce Mathew’s creative works (Click here). Mr. Mathew recently took issue with Ann “A.C.” Crispin on the Author’s Goodreads page:

A. Crispin – what are you doing about this? – What the Walt Disney Company has done is that they have stolen my creative work/story & characters and used it for the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie – and the sequels – (for the 4th film, they then licensed the rights to the book On Stranger Tides and incorporated that.) Then with A. Crispin’s book – they gave her / hired her to take my characters and fictional inventions (such as the eccentric pirate and the pirate ship the Black Pearl) and to create a back story for them. Thus by her involvement for a book deal, A. Crispin is both perpetuating and assisting Disney with the theft and exploitation of my creative work. My website has documents and photo proof of my fight for accountability – and thus she should step forward and address the serious issue(s) at hand. See photo proof of the Walt Disney Company’s fraud, corruption and criminal acts in regards to the Pirates of the Caribbean movie franchise and my ongoing fight for accountability over the theft of my supernatural pirate story – www.disneylawsuit.com.” (Emphasis added.)

Ann “A.C.” Crispin’s reply:

“Dear Mr. Mathew: If the US courts sustain your claims, I will certainly comply with any directives they give me. I am a law-abiding individual. I wish to make clear, however, that you did not write The Price of Freedom, as The Write Agenda sock puppet was implying. -I- wrote it, and at the time I wrote it I was completely unaware of any litigation that had been filed. You might want to check out The Write Agenda site. It’s a hate site, and nothing else, set up by people with an axe to grind against Writer Beware . . “. If these people are who we think they are, allying yourself with them would not redound to your credit in the courts, since they’re already in considerable trouble with the authorities.(Emphasis added.)

Firstly, The Write Agenda never implied that Mr. Mathew wrote The Price of Freedom. We did bring the concerns of Mr. Mathew’s to the attention of our followers and readers. Secondly, we never contended that Ann “A.C.” Crispin didn’t write Pirates Of The Caribbean: Price Of Freedom. We did raise the issue and are questioning whether there is any validity to Mr. Mathew’s claims that Ann “A.C.” Crispin’s involvement in the book deal for Pirates Of The Caribbean: Price Of Freedom, may both be perpetuating and assisting Disney with the theft and exploitation of Royce Mathew’s creative works. These are fair and reasonable questions to be asking considering Mr. Mathew’s claims. Moreover, it is in the public’s interest to know regardless of whether Disney or Mr. Mathew is correct. In spite of Ann “A.C.” Crispin’s admonishment regarding The Write Agenda, Mr. Mathew ignored her warnings and gave Ann “A.C.” Crispin a few himself:

Ann C. Crispin I am an independent artist, with credentials who is actively fighting for accountability over the theft of my creative work.., [sic] and I have never claimed I wrote the book The Price of Freedom. Yet that book was built off of my creative property that includes my supernatural pirate story, characters and fictional inventions. If you read my statement/letter/posting – it states that the facts prove that the Walt Disney Company has engaged in criminal acts that involve them stealing my creative work including my original story, characters, and fictional inventions for their Pirates of the Caribbean movie franchise (starting with the first movie The Curse of the Black Pearl). Photo proof of this is on my website  www.disneylawsuit.com which has been filed with government agencies and with the court(s). Then after my creative work was illegally branded as a Disney creative property, it was then given to you, which you were evidently hired, to take my characters and fictional inventions (such as the eccentric pirate and the pirate ship the Black Pearl) and to create a back story for them. Thus the Walt Disney Company has been bringing other people into their company circle with which to help them to further profit and exploit my creative property. Either knowingly or unknowingly, yours, as well as Johnny Depp, and others, have been all perpetuating and assisting Disney with the theft and exploitation of my creative work. May I point out that my fight for accountability and righteousness is all over the internet – and I will continue to lawfully seek justice and accountability in regards to the theft and exploitation of my creative work, as well as against the Walt Disney Company’s corrupt and criminal legacy of Michael Eisner, that still continues with Robert Iger and Michael Eisner. Here is a recent 2011 online interview with me (Royce Mathew) in regards to my career which involves Disney, Michael Eisner, Marty Sklar and more…http://www.bigdaddyhorrorreviews.com/201… In closing, you, as well as others, have a choice – which is to either ignore the documented facts as you (directly or indirectly) aided and continue to profit from Disney’s criminal actions – or you can do something positive about it. – I welcome all communications and interviews as this serious matter is far from over.(Emphasis added.)

Fellow weinerdog, Victoria Strauss, came to Ann “A.C.” Crispin’s aid but only to use the opportunity to throw a jab at The Write Agenda:

“Thanks for your comments, Royce. I too was unaware of your lawsuit before you contacted me (at my Writer Beware email address) two weeks ago. I’ll be interested to follow your progress. I have to echo Ann’s caution about being careful with whom you associate yourself. If you’re looking for allies, The Write Agenda is a dubious one to choose. Any overtures it may have made toward you are intended to further its own agenda–to discredit Ann and others who warn about scams in the book publishing world–not to help you with your cause.(Emphasis added.)

Again, avoiding Victoria Strauss’ attempt to discredit The Write Agenda, Mr. Mathew put the smack-down on Victoria Strauss as well:

My website disneylawsuit.com details many things including how Disney has engaged in additional corrupt acts with which to make it seem that my supernatural pirate story, characters and fictional inventions are part of their Pirates of the Caribbean ride attraction. For example my pirate ship is the Black Pearl, owned by the eccentric pirate, while the pirate ship in the Pirates of the Caribbean ride attraction (for over thirty years) is the Wicked Wench owned by a generic captain pirate. Yet Disney is instructing those hired by them to make it suddenly owned by an eccentric pirate, and that the Wicked Wench was later burned, sunk, raised and renamed the Black Pearl. Yes, I am naturally angry to see my creative work stolen (via Ted Elliott, Terry Rossio & condoned by Michael Eisner) exploited, used and credited to others. Meanwhile via Jason Surrell, Marty Sklar and others, Disney is doing various things with which to help them obscure the facts/truth behind the origins of the supernatural pirate story / characters / fictional inventions (which I own). Johnny Depp / his sister (his partner/manager) could have sent an assistant or attorney to review all of the documents but he didn’t. Instead he is profiting without showing any concern whatsoever. Meanwhile Ann Crispin and others are also profiting – and if they don’t know about it, then now they do. No doubt that Ann Crispin is an experience author – however, as I have stated – she as others, have a choice – which is to either ignore the documented facts as they (directly or indirectly) aided and continue to profit from Disney’s criminal actions – or they can do something positive about it and demand answers.(Emphasis added.)

We, The Write Agenda, applaud Royce Mathew for staying on topic, avoiding Ann “A.C.” Crispin’s and Victoria Strauss’ vile attempt to cloud the issues, and for forcing Ann “A.C.” Crispin and Victoria Strauss face the facts of his plight. Ann “A.C.” Crispin and Victoria Strauss both have a history of ignoring documented facts (Click here):

American Book Publishing “Investigation” Research Released: No Proof of Victoria Strauss’ Claims

What is most interesting is how defensive and caustic these weinerdogs become whenever you question a relative point that involves them. Ann “A.C.” Crispin called The Write Agenda a “hate site.” We’ve spent considerable time reviewing all of our postings and have yet to find one that could even remotely be construed as hate speech. Presumably, if you disagree or challenge Ann “A.C.” Crispin, and her fellow weinerdogs, including Victoria Strauss, it’s interpreted as hate speech. So, we challenge Ann “A.C.” Crispin to identify any of our postings that can prove her statement that The Write Agenda is in fact a “hate site.” We have challenged Ann “A.C.” Crispin and her fellow weinerdogs in the past . . .  they never reply; especially when they have been caught with their pants down. Bring it on Ann “A.C.” Crispin . . .  there’s always an open door here. Victoria Strauss has never replied to our requests to prove her claims against American Book Publishing . . . never!

Victoria Strauss stated that aligning one’s self with The Write Agenda is a “dubious” choice and only serves to further the agenda of The Write Agenda. In reply, we cannot think of two individuals that have used their positions to propagate more hate than Ann “A.C.” Crispin and Victoria Strauss. We would be remiss to fail to include other weinerdogs including James D. Macdonald and Teresa Nielsen Hayden in this mix of hateful people.  Their cultish sites are nothing more than recruiting and training grounds for dilettante authors, failing authors and “flying monkeys”  that are encouraged to proliferate their hate messages (Click here) via Google bombs (if you need examples, contact us).

Since we question the activities and reporting of the weinerdogs, Victoria Strauss wants to label us “dubious” or that we are “not to be relied upon.” Of all of the weinerdogs Victoria Strauss has proven herself to be the most “dubious” (i.e. not to be relied upon). For example, Victoria Strauss and her accomplice Ann “A.C.”Crispin have placed American Book Publishing on their (Writer Beware) “Thumbs Down” list and stated that American Book Publishing “has been the subject of “at least one police investigation.”  The Write Agenda, through “extensive documentation,” has in fact proven that this claim by Victoria Strauss is false (click here). For more information on Victoria Strauss and her possible motives against American Book Publishing, click here. Obviously, the reputation and integrity of Victoria Strauss’ reporting has been seriously called into question.

In conclusion, Victoria Strauss has remained silent regarding the findings and challenges to her credibility raised by The Write Agenda. Normally, most people and companies will respond quickly with a response when reputations are challenged. However, she has basically stuck her head in the sand hoping that our findings, i.e. that American Book Publishing was never the subject of a “police investigation,”  will simply pass.

Victoria Strauss will continue to be a blemish on the “watchdog” community until she can either: 1) admit or deny that  her actions against American Book Publishing were in retaliation to her attempt to get on the payroll of American Book Publishing; 2) admit or deny that these postings were the result of her following up on a threat to post a false report; and/or 3) admit or deny the veracity of the statements made against American Book Publishing. Until this can happen, Victoria Strauss will no longer be considered an effective “watchdog.” In fact, the lies and disingenuousness have reduced Victoria Strauss to a “weinerdog” that deserves a kennel at Anthony Weiner’s “House of Deceit.” It’s simple, the publishing community (authors, agents, publishers, etc.)  needs to rise up and force and compel Victoria Strauss to take responsibility for her claims against American Book Publishing.

This is your call to action. Write to Victoria. Write to her publishers. Write to the officers of the Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA). Post the link to this article on your websites and blogs. If Victoria Strauss continues to remain silent, she will leave 1000′s of authors speculating about her credibility as a “watchdog.” Victoria Strauss’ silence and selective use of research material leads a reasonable person to conclude that Victoria Strauss is a liar with a hidden agenda. As a result, she has damaged her own reputation.

The Write Agenda is a “hate site” and “dubious,” seriously? Ann “A.C.” Crispin, Victoria Strauss prove it. We will continue to question the weinerdogs (Ann “A.C.” Crispin, Victoria Strauss et. al.) until they have the ovarian (testicular) fortitude to come clean and admit their short comings to all of us. Most importantly, Ann “A.C.” Crispin and Victoria Strauss both need to admit that they have lied regarding their reporting that American Book Publishing was the subject of a police investigation.

Victoria Strauss Drops F-Bomb, Ann “A.C.” Crispin Thinks it’s OK: How Publishing Watchdogs Demonstrate Their Arrogance and Supremacy for Standards

In A.C., A.C. Crispin, Absolute Write, Accountability, Amazon Rankings, Amazon Sales Rankings, American Book Publishing, Ann Crispin, Author, Authors, Credibility, Crispin, Making Light, Professionalism, Propaganda, Publishers, Publishing, Reputation, Reputation Management, Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers Association, Self-Publishing, SFWA, Victoria Strauss, Writer Beware on July 12, 2011 at 12:47 am

“Fuck you, obnoxious chat sidebar that pops up repeatedly and randomly for no apparent reason. You have only made me more determined never, ever to use you.”

Victoria Strauss

In an apparent outrage regarding an internet pop-up, Victoria Strauss posted the above quote (Yes, that’s a “Fuck You” from Victoria Strauss) on her Facebook page on July 9, 2011. Victoria Strauss’ F-Bomb was widely applauded by all of the normal flying monkeys. Is this the same Victoria Strauss that stated: “Professionalism seems to be in increasingly short supply these days”? Piping in on this complete self-righteous arrogance was Ann “A.C.” Crispin:

“Victoria, shhhh! You are putting a dent in the public perception that you are a saintly creature, the Mary Magdalen [sic] of Writers, protecting them from demons in the form of scam agents and publishers! <wink>”

Ann “A.C.” Crispin

We’re sure that there are some individuals (a.k.a flying monkeys) that have placed these two on pedestals as heroes. However, as we’ve come to learn, Victoria Strauss is neither a “saintly creature” nor “Mary Magdalen” for writers (click here). As the two individuals responsible for Writer Beware™, both Victoria Strauss and Ann “A.C.” Crispin have perpetrated questionable statements against some publishers, agents and publishing industry specialists. (Please see our coverage of the American Book Publishing scandal and Victoria Strauss’ lies; click here.) Moreover, they (Victoria Strauss and Ann “A.C.” Crispin) continue to do so.

This latest exchange demonstrates the complete arrogance of Victoria Strauss and Ann “A.C.” Crispin.  Do you get the feeling that Victoria Strauss and Ann “A.C.” Crispin feel that they are above us? More and more these “watchdogs” continue to insult all of us in the publishing industry. Is it really OK for Victoria Strauss to drop F-Bombs and have fellow publishing industry “watchdog” Ann “A.C.” Crispin demonstrate their arrogance further? Is it OK for Victoria Strauss to publicly yell “Fuck You” and for Ann “A.C.” Crispin to dismiss it as OK? These are the people that claim to have your best interest at hand. Really?

Our “public perception” of Victoria Strauss and Ann “A.C.” Crispin (author of Pirates Of The Caribbean: Price Of Freedom) will not change until they both come forward and tell the truth regarding American Book Publishing (click here). Ann “A.C.” Crispin’s books and especially the Pirates Of The Caribbean: Price Of Freedom will continue to be boycotted (watch for protest information) until they (Victoria Strauss and Ann “A.C.” Crispin) can come clean and admit that they have lied.

Victoria Strauss and Ann “A.C.” Crispin you have once again offended the publishing community that you claim to serve. Your arrogance and pompousness continue to inflate your egos and deflate the confidence of those that look up to you. Your flagrant vulgarity and the tag-team acquiescence will not continue to win followers; yes, it is eroding thanks to The Write Agenda. Moreover, your lagging Amazon Sales Ranking performance illustrates that your self-promotion strategies are not fruitful.

Victoria Strauss and Ann “A.C.” Crispin, you are despicable!  Yes, Ann “A.C.” Crispin, public perception is everything and you and Victoria Strauss continue to squander the perception of Writer Beware™ in the face of authors, prospective authors and others in the publishing industry. This is exactly what turns “watchdogs” into “weinerdogs” (click here).

Hand-in-hand, with the Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA) on their back, Victoria Strauss and Ann “A.C.” Crispin continue to wave their middle fingers in the face of the publishing industry. Wake up people . . . this is arrogance. Offended? You should be.

Victoria Strauss: The Anthony Weiner Scandal is a BS Story; “Weinerdog” Still Shows no Compunction for the Truth

In Absolute Write, Accountability, American Book Publishing, Author, Authors, Credibility, Investigations, Professionalism, Propaganda, Publishers, Publishing, Reputation, Reputation Management, Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers Association, Self-Publishing, SFWA, Victoria Strauss, Writer Beware on June 14, 2011 at 8:23 pm

In a recent blog posting, we encouraged publishing industry “WeinerdogVictoria Strauss to follow Anthony Weiner‘s lead and publicly admit her lies regarding American Book Publishing (Click here). On June 13, 2011, Victoria Strauss pointed her Facebook friends to a Talking Points Memo as  if it’s some form of justification to continue to evade the truth. The author of the article, Josh Marshall, makes several statements that the Weiner saga is somewhat trivial. Perhaps Victoria Strauss is attempting to imply that the American Book Publishing report is also equally trivial. Let’s read between some of the lines in these quotes from Marshall’s article:

“[I]t’s not worth losing him over something relatively trivial like a sex scandal.”

“Basically, unless coercion or harassment or some other clear kind of lawbreaking is involved it’s really nobody’s business and everybody should just shut up.”

” . . . [H]e’s hurt his wife and possibly his unborn child through his recklessness — but that’s his and his wife’s business. Not mine.”

“But c’mon. At heart it’s still a BS story. I see a Member of Congress who’s totally embarrassed himself. But as I tried to make clear to staff last week it’s hardly a federal case. And his own constituents seem clear that they don’t want him to resign.”

“So somehow the apparently unprecedented simultaneous demands for his resignation . . . just strikes me as a degree of pomposity and over-serious high dudgeon that has somehow managed the improbable effect of making his dogged desire to hold on to his office in the face of seemingly daily humiliation look better to me than their stern-minded and ‘oh please!’ inducing calls for him to cough it up.”

The real “BS” is Victoria Strauss‘ failure to take responsibility to be transparent in the reporting of a “police investigation” regarding American Book Publishing.  Victoria Strauss‘ wants this matter to be trivial and swept under the rug. Victoria Strauss has hurt the business reputation of this publisher, the publishing industry, the reputation of the SFWA and that is everyones business. Did Victoria Strauss use coercion, harassment and blackmail strategies in her dealings with American Book Publishing? Until there is transparency, we’ll continue to make a case out of it. Victoria Strauss‘ constituents (and the flying monkeys) surely do not want her to resign even though she has embarrassed herself. However, we do not feel that our demands for her resignation have been in any way pompous (click here). We will continue to demand that Victoria Strauss “cough up” the truth regarding American Book Publishing.

Victoria Strauss Goes from “Watchdog” to “Weinerdog” – How the Selective Use of Research Material Can Damage Your Reputation: Victoria Strauss Cites another Police Investigation Regarding a Publisher . . . This Time it’s Correct and TRUE!

In Absolute Write, Accountability, American Book Publishing, Author, Authors, Credibility, Investigations, Law Suits, Making Light, Professionalism, Propaganda, Publishers, Publishing, Reputation, Reputation Management, Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers Association, Self-Publishing, SFWA, Teresa Nielsen Hayden, Victoria Strauss on June 8, 2011 at 3:34 pm

What? Victoria Strauss relying on source material to prove facts? In a June 7, 2011 posting (Police Investigate Historical Pages Publishing Company), Victoria Strauss quotes heavily from the Burlington Free Press and the Manchester Journal. The police investigation, by the Hinesburg Community Police, has in fact actually led to scheduled court appearance for  Peter Campbell-Copp of Manchester and his company Historical Pages. In a June 3, 2011 posting (Clark, Mendelson, and [sic] Scott: New Name for a Fee-Charging Agency) Victoria Strauss stated that: “Everything that follows is supported by extensive documentation in Writer Beware‘s possession.”

We do applaud Victoria Strauss for pointing to reliable news sources regarding the June 7, 2011 posting. Generally, mainstream reporting is deemed to be one of the most reliable for statements of fact. Obviously, in this instance, no one would contest that an actual police investigation did occur. Regarding Victoria Strauss’ June 3, 2011 posting, one has to consider the weight given to her purported “extensive documentation.” (For an example of “extensive documentation” click here.) Victoria Strauss, to be considered as a respectable “watchdog,” should adhere to the common admonition for a writer: “Show, don’t tell.” In other words, show your evidence and let people experience it rather having to solely trust you on your words alone; especially after your reporting and reputation has been challenged. We do not contest the focus, or topic, of the June 3, 2011 posting. (So, “flying monkeys,” stay on topic.) However, we do challenge and question her use of “extensive documentation.” In the event that her “extensive documentation” is something akin to the types of postings commonly found on the Writer Beware, Absolute Write, or other industry sites, it’s very likely from questionable sources and unreliable. Seriously, if it was such valuable research, led to the truth and proved facts . . . would you not show it?

Comparative speaking, why does Victoria Strauss suddenly appear to be fostering the use of source material to report publishing industry news? In the American Book Publishing report she merely claimed that: “American Book Publishing has been the focus of at least one police investigation.” There were no newspaper articles and there was not any “extensive documentation” utilized by Victoria Strauss to prove this claim. Just her words and reputation. Why is there a selective use of source material by Victoria Strauss? Why prove it effectively in the June 7, 2011 posting but not in the American Book Publishing report?  The Write Agenda, through “extensive documentation,” has in fact proven that this claim by Victoria Strauss is false (click here).

Until this can happen, Victoria Strauss will no longer be considered an effective “watchdog.” In fact, the lies and disingenuousness have reduced Victoria Strauss to a “weinerdog” that deserves a kennel at Anthony Weiner’s “House of Deceit.”

It’s simple, the publishing community (authors, agents, publishers, etc.)  needs to rise up and force and compel Victoria Strauss to take responsibility for her claims against American Book Publishing. This is your call to action. Write to Victoria Strauss.

American Book Publishing “Investigation” Research Released: No Proof of Victoria Strauss’ Claims

In Accountability, American Book Publishing, Authors, Credibility, Investigations, Professionalism, Propaganda, Publishers, Publishing, Reputation, Reputation Management, Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers Association, Self-Publishing, SFWA, Victoria Strauss on May 31, 2011 at 7:33 pm

As you know, we’ve asked a simple question to Victoria Strauss and the Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA): Show your evidence that American Book Publishing “has been the focus of at least one police investigation.”

Consistent with the applicable Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) we have conducted some extensive (exhaustive) research with the agencies listed below. As a result, we have neither located evidence nor reports of any “investigation” involving American Book Publishing in these jurisdictions. The only “investigation” that we did locate involved a “theft” at the residence of Ms. Nunn who had a break-in to her home and also sustained damage thereto. Pursuant to the request of many of our readers, we are releasing copies of our findings herein:

When the Facts are Not on Your Side, Edit it: How Teresa Nielsen Hayden Manipulates the Truth

In A.C. Crispin, Absolute Write, American Book Publishing, Ann Crispin, Goy's Law, Investigations, James D. MacDonald, Making Light, Money should flow toward the author, Propaganda, Reputation, Reputation Management, Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers Association, Self-Publishing, SFWA, Teresa Nielsen Hayden, Victoria Strauss, Writer Beware, Yog's Law on May 26, 2011 at 10:15 pm

“The truth cannot be asserted without denouncing the falsehood.”

– Leslie Stephen

In an addendum to a Making Light posting, Teresa Nielsen Hayden stated as follows:

“They’ve [The Write Agenda] also posted a string of new blog entries denouncing me, Jim Macdonald, Yog’s LawAnn Crispin, and other usual suspects, and an open letter to SFWA in which they misspell multiple names, grossly misquote Jim Macdonald and Robin Bailey, and demand that SFWA discipline, expel, and repudiate Ann Crispin, Victoria Strauss, and Jim Macdonald in order to preserve SFWA’s good name.”

Let’s set the record straight and work through this narcoleptic babble. It is true that we denounced the individuals named above. We also have addressed the fallacies of Yog’s Law. In response, we introduced Goy’s Law. All we have ever asked for was the truth. For example:

QUERY: Does James D. Macdonald Have a Criminal History?

Invitation to James D. Macdonald: Show your Criminal History

Do you notice how these “flying monkeys” evade the truth? The mission is to get the reader off topic, attack the opponent and fail to comment on the real issues. If the worse thing that we are accused of is misspelling names, at least it has little to do with intelligence.

James D. Macdonald and Robin Bailey were not “grossly” misquoted in any of our postings. This is a great example of how Teresa Nielsen Hayden is editing and manipulating the truth. All of our postings have been properly vetted and attributed in the reference sections. Both of these gentlemen are in fact the authors of the following quotes. We defy Teresa Nielsen Hayden to provide evidence that these are misquotes:

“But only if she strips down to bra-and-panties first.”

–          James D. Macdonald

“I do it for power and popularity. It’s all about the power. And the popularity. Really. It used to be about fame, fortune and free sex.”

–          Robin Wayne Bailey[1]

We did not request that the SFWA discipline, expel and repudiate Ann Crispin, Victoria Strauss and James D. Macdonald “in order to preserve SFWA’s good name.” We did say that these individuals have brought “disgrace” and “dishonor” to their organization. To wit:

“Based on the circumstances listed above, we believe that there is “good and sufficient cause” for the expulsion of each of the members listed above. At the minimum, some form of disciplinary action should ensue for the disgrace and disingenuous activities that they have engaged in; not to mention the dishonor they have brought upon the organization.

–          The Write Agenda

Whether the SFWA has a “good name,” or not, remains to be seen. As long as they continue to be an accomplice to the apparent lies of Victoria Strauss, that name will continue to be questioned. Therefore, Teresa Nielsen Hayden’s narcoleptic babble has been deemed pure C.R.A.P. Readers, this is demonstrative evidence of why you need to be skeptical of these “flying monkeys” postings and utilize the C.R.A.P test. C.R.A.P. is an acronym for Currency, Reliability, Authority and Purpose and Point of View. Purported “truths” will never prevail where the falsehoods are denounced.

“With a pen in my hand I have successfully stormed bulwarks from which others armed with sword and excommunication have been repulsed.”

–          Georg C. Lichtenberg

QUERY: Does Author James D. Macdonald Have a Criminal History?

In A.C., A.C. Crispin, Absolute Write, Accountability, American Book Publishing, Ann Crispin, Authors, Credibility, Crispin, Investigations, James D. MacDonald, Law Suits, Making Light, Money should flow toward the author, Propaganda, Publishers, Publishing, Reputation, Reputation Management, Robert Fletcher, Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers Association, SFWA, Strategic Book Group, Teresa Nielsen Hayden, Victoria Strauss, Writer Beware, Yog's Law on May 8, 2011 at 12:34 am

“People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.”

In a May 6, 2011 post on the Making Light site, James D. Macdonald re-posted an email, from 2007, which was attributed to Strategic Book Group’s President, Robert Fletcher. Without getting into the innuendo (you can read it for yourself here), the implication was that James D. Macdonald has a criminal history. Ironically, there’s no express denial by James D. Macdonald in the posting. The only defense presented by James D. Macdonald was: “First thing is, Bouncing Bobby (since he doesn’t know much about books and writing, or the selling of same to the public) thinks that being a known criminal is a bar. It isn’t. E.g.: Willie Sutton; Edward Bunker.”  Sutton and Bunker were both notorious authors with criminal histories. Their criminal histories included bank robbery, drug dealingextortionarmed robbery, and forgery. (Side bar: Great references if you’re looking for role models.) Are these really the literary heroes that you want to align yourself with?

Is James D. Macdonald a known criminal? It may not be a bar to being a author; but it should call into question a “watchdog’s” credibility and any non-profit affiliations he/she may have. In the spirit of Sutton’s Law, additional research requires one to consider what is most observable and discoverable. Additional research will confirm or deny whether primary source material reveals evidence of this claim. However, James D. Macdonald could have eliminated any suspicion with a simple denial of any history of criminal activity. He didn’t. Now, we’re curious.

Ann Crispin and Victoria Strauss both claimed that the 2007 email was a blackmail attempt by Robert Fletcher. In addition, both avoided comment on whether or not James D. Macdonald does have a criminal history. What is most interesting is that Victoria Strauss would even dare to accuse another person of blackmail. That really took ovarian fortitude Victoria Strauss!

Victoria Strauss has been an ongoing subject of research regarding her clam that American Book Publishing has been the subject of an “investigation.” In her initial blog on this subject, Victoria Strauss was accused of blackmail herself. The purported claim of blackmail against Victoria Strauss suggests that she made a phone call to a police department and then falsely reported it as a police investigation regarding American Book Publishing in a retaliatory effort to distress and alarm authors. It has been suggested that this was in retaliation to American Book Publishing’s denial to put Victoria Strauss on their payroll as contract administrator and when they refused she followed up on a threat to post a false report. Victoria Strauss has yet to produce primary source material to validate her claim. Our extensive research and Freedom of Information requests have failed to produce evidence to substantiate Victoria Strauss’ claims.
