“[I]f 36 people have really quit  [the SWFA] of late, then obviously the responsibility lies with those who have actively sown dissension and dissatisfaction throughout the organization with their inept activist leadership rather than the so-called “rabid weasels” who have been there for years, if not decades.”

Dear Twelve Rabid Weasels of SFWA, please shut the fuck up.

How ironic that she never told Robin Wayne Bailey to shut the fuck up?

“First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.”

Mahatma Gandhi

If you follow Writer Beware, Absolute Write etc., you’ll notice that Tom Dark has  quite a flurry of activity going on. Many of the recent postings have caused some people, like  Lisa L. Spangenberg, to launch into “protection” and “salvation” mode; otherwise, they would just ignore Tom Dark  . . .  they’re not.

Dark, in a couple of very astute Twitter postings, has pointed out a couple of the shortcomings of Victoria Strauss, her followers and other like-kind sites. They attack, criticise, call you names (i.e. “crazy”) and defuse . . .  yet, they never respond to the claims against them. For example:

You can’t “deny” that Victoria Strauss, A.C. Crispin & Writer Beware failed to report the publishing SCAM perpetrated by their own attorney. See John Steinbeck Family Defrauded by Writer Beware™ & SFWA Attorney: The 2007 Scam that Writer Beware™ Didn’t Report . . . Why?

You can’t “deny” that Victoria Strauss, A.C. Crispin & Writer Beware failed to prove that American Book Publishing was subject to a “police investigation.” Which leads one to believe that Strauss may have another hidden agenda. See American Book Publishing: No Case, No Criminal Contact & No Legal Action Taken.

You can’t “deny” the fact that Victoria Strauss and others were “non-vindicated” defendants in the Bauer vs. Glatzer case. See Bauer vs. Glatzer et. al. – Summary of Allegations Against the Named Defendants

Delay is the deadliest form of denial.”

SFWA’s Scalzi Leaving a Pile of Shit for New SFWA President, Steven Gould

In 2013 SFWA Elections, 2013 SFWA Presidential Election, John Scalzi, Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers, SFWA, SFWA 2013 Elections, Steve Gould, Steven Gould on June 5, 2013 at 11:09 pm

“If you look closely, you’ll see she did not have editorial control; hence the content was passed on to the Publisher i.e. the President of SFWA, i.e John Scalzi who did not read the articles. I note however that the Bylaws don’t really indicate much about the Bulletin other than it’s a membership benefit and it should list new members.  Which is why I’ve said that they need to stop treating the Bulletin like a fanzine that no one reads. It needs to be taken seriously. The Editor needs to have the ability to accept or reject, and there needs to be some sort of approval mechanism so that the Board can support the editor and be aware of issues before they become public. A modicum of oversight would have prevented the idiocies of the last three bulletins from ever appearing in print.”

“Since his presidency ends at midnight tonight, I’m underwhelmed.  He could have hired a competent editor, he could have invited other members besides Resnick and Malzberg to contribute to the column, he could have done all manner of things to end a problem that is more than a year old. The SF Bulletin is not a fanzine, though it’s been edited like it is. Instead, Resnick and Malzberg have a platform to sneer at their fellow members, especially the women. Never mind the weirdness of a print only glossy magazine that’s mailed to members of an SF professional organization.”

“I started to write Scalzi a letter, but it pretty much boiled down to “God damn it, SFWA! Stop it!” They do a lot of good. A lot of good. But then this kind of crap comes up. They need to stop giving an official platform to sexist bullshit. Those folks can blog about it in their journals if they want. It has no place in an official publication.”

“My membership expired a few months ago and I’ve been planning to renew. Now, I’m not so sure. I’m going to be attending WorldCon in San Antonio in August. I’ll be interested to see how this issue plays out there, in a wider forum. I have met a number of male SF writers who don’t use “lady” as a negative term. It’s more a term of respect than “female” or “woman.” Why not just “author?” I’d imagine it came from a time when there weren’t many women writers in the SF/F field. That’s changed. Especially if you count Urban Fantasy, Steampunk, Dystopian and other sub-genres (and keep in mind that there are any number of purists who don’t think those genres should even qualify for SFWA membership!) Will I renew my membership? I’m frankly torn. I was SOOOO proud (!!) to get the qualifications to become a member. (And yes, it wasn’t a slam dunk to qualify a decade ago with a paranormal romance. Thankfully, it was pubbed by Tor—a longstanding member.) Am I still proud to be a member? Yes, some days, when Victoria is saving another aspiring author with the Writer Beware site. Yes, on days when volunteer task forces are working hard to help authors find money due them, by auditing royalty statements for free. And on days when I realize what amazing people are members. But today isn’t one of those days. Today I’m sad…”

“Whoops. I stopped reading most of the contents of the Bulletins a while ago, which in retrospect was an error. I remember the notorious issue #200 of a few months back. When it arrived I looked at its cover of a busty barely clad heavily made-up chick with every muscle clenched standing over a dead frost giant in snow covered mountains, rolled my eyes, and tossed it in the magazine basket. It struck me at the time as a throwback cover to celebrate a 200th issue, definitely catering to the boys’ club aspects of fsf. I didn’t read the contents and was unaware until recently of Resnick and Malzberg’s jaw-dropping comments on “lady” authors and editors. I pulled that issue out again when issue #202 arrived this week with a big plea for reason from Jim C. Hines in it. Hines is one of my heroes, so I read his column which seemed a clear, reasonable laying out of the necessity for sensible open discussion of sexism and gender. As for the rest of it, I am dismayed.”

“This makes me very sad, as I (naively it seemed) thought that spec fic writers were forward thinking and that the field had become increasingly welcoming to and accepting of female authors in recent years. I am also ineligible for membership, but always assumed that if I ever made the requisite pro sales, I’d join in a heartbeat, both for the benefits of membership and for the chance to associate with some of my favorite writers. The argument that expecting a certain level of maturity and respect in a professional publication’s discourse amounts to censorship is specious at best. First of all, a professional organization has the right to establish guidelines and standards for its own publications and forums and editorials. Second of all, when you use your right to free speech, you donot waive your right to be criticized for what you say. Free speech cuts both ways, and if you say something that makes you sound like you’re the worst kind of drunken 18 year old college freshman, someone else is entitled to use their right to free speech to say so. Criticism is not censorship, nor is someone commenting that people who say things that are bigoted should perhaps consider the effects their words have on others and that the owner of said publication should consider whether or not providing a platform for such views is making the right impression and creating the environment they want to within their organization.”

This is quite comical and on the verge of paranoia. Cleo Voght, whoever you are, please contact us confidentially here. LOL. Northern Indiana? Miss Vicky must be sharing an IV with the soon to be DEAD Ann “A.C.” Crispin. Seriously Victoria?

  • We’ve never contacted you . . . we have our own blog; we will FREELY continue to challenge you here.
  • True, you are not a “very-successful author.” Your books suck! True?
  • You DO bash people without facts. PROVEN
  • “Most of your bullshit is just a bitch with an angry opinion.” AGREE!
  • You are NOT a best-selling author. PROVEN!

These statements that have been attributed to The Write Agenda by the delusions of Victoria Strauss are nothing new; we’ve proudly made similar statements about Victoria Strauss. The author of this email never stated that he/she was affiliated with The Write Agenda. However, Victoria Strauss somehow attributed it to The Write Agenda. There would be no reason for The Write Agenda to contact Victoria Strauss covertly . . . we do it here on thewriteagenda.wordpress.com. May this serve as another example of Victoria Strauss, Ann “A.C.” Crispin & Writer Beware posting false information.

And, why is Victoria Strauss suddenly in “protective” mode? Ponder friends . . . do ponder.

yourself an author & watchdog. Get real, you are a bitter wanabe so
you use this as your payback for being a non sequietur in publishing.
You are right on a few “savior” efforts but most of your bullshit is

The One Million month

Thanks very much to everyone who visited here in April, especially those who took the time to get involved in the various discussions in the comments.  I remember scoffing when ten years ago a reader predicted that this blog would one day have a million pageviews in a year, so it seems incredible to me that VP and AG now see that level of traffic in a single month.

With a few notable exceptions, most blogs hide their traffic reports these days, but I think this is a tactical blunder.  The primary problem with doing so is that it allows the Left to dishonestly attempt to marginalize right-wing blogs in the eyes of others.  Recall that I have been portrayed for ten years as an extremist whack-job whose writing no one read even as the readership steadily grown, and I was regularly reminded that PZ Myers, John Scalzi, and a number of other left-wing bloggers all had much bigger blog readerships than I did… until it was revealed late last year that the traffic here alone, (never mind that of the  WND columns that those bloggers were reading and attacking), had passed up some of those blogs almost two years ago!  Never forget, the Left is heavily dependent upon lies, and one of their biggest lies, perhaps the one to which they resort the most readily, concerns their pretense that their opinions enjoy much more popularity than they actually do.  Therefore, the more metrics that are visible to everyone, the less they can get away with it.

That is why I make my Sitemeter and Google Analytics statistics public.  (VP uses the old template, which is why there is no monthly traffic widget in the sidebar as is the case with AG.) That’s why I’ve begun a quarterly Top 10 Game blogs report that I expect to expand to a Top 25 report in the second quarter. That’s why I encourage everyone who is in any way sympathetic to the neoreactionary traditional Relightenment to be open and public with their statistics. The truth is on our side. Victory through data!

Let’s face it, it is very difficult for the rabbits of Whatever to continue to claim that the Chief Gamma Rabbit of their warren is a vastly influential individual, and their sick transcis-quax-gendered view of human intersexual relations is the mainstream perspective, when everyone now realizes that Whatever has only two-thirds the traffic of my blogs and one-quarter that of the Great Prophet of the Crimson Arts.  Open metrics make it clear that it is the influential Cathedralites such as Jim Hines (Alexa Rank 729,110) and Making Light (375,254), who are actually the marginal ones. Despite their artificially elevated positions in the field of SF/F, they cannot maintain sizable blog readerships, not even with the benefit of occasional puffing by their ideological allies in the mainstream media.  They may be big fish, but they are big fish in a much smaller pond than the ocean they attempt to claim.

It’s not that their opinions aren’t relevant or that no one shares them, it is merely that their perspective is nowhere nearly as dominant as they are desperate to have you believe.  They can run from debate and they can refuse to permit substantive criticism or even a semblance of genuine discourse on their sites, but the one thing they cannot avoid is the harsh light of statistical reality exposing their pretenses.

It is ludicrous to imagine that it is popular writers such as Sarah Hoyt and Larry Correia who are the societal outsiders when their influence is an order of magnitude or more larger than most of the supposed “big names” in modern SF/F.   Sure, the Cathredralites sell more books, for the time being, because their capture of the genre’s gatekeepers means they have access to its media and distribution channels. But what we are seeing now is the early stages of a Fox News-style transformation in the SF/F industry, as new media outlets and new transmission channels is in the process of seriously upending the tilted playing field.  The cultural battle in SF/F isn’t over, as the self-appointed winners would have you believe, the heavy cavalry is just beginning to enter the field and the unarmored footmen without shields are quaking.

However, the fact that the Left is wrong about equality, wrong about economics, wrong about the past, and wrong about the future does not mean there is nothing that we of the Right cannot learn from them.  The one thing the Left does very, very well is the force-multiplication of its various assets, no matter how small and insignificant they truly are, and that is something that the neoreactionary Right will have to learn in order to mitigate the damage our progressive counterparts have inflicted upon us and upon themselves.  That’s why I’ve created the Standout Authors and Friends of Narnia, and I encourage other writers and bloggers of the Right to devote at least some effort to building up others of the Right even as they continue to pursue their own diverse and independent ambitions.

Consider that Prospect Magazine declared the top World Thinkers of 2013 on the basis of 10,000 votes.  10,000 votes!   That’s nothing, and yet the Left will gravely – and absurdly – pretend, on that basis, that Richard Dawkins is widely considered to be the greatest intellectual of our time.

We can do better. We should do better. We will do better.

I feel like he should be placed in a padded room so he doesn’t hurt himself.

 tzApril 25, 2013 1:36 PM

The wallpaper looks like an old English letter “L”, and maybe with the line in the middle. I hope he got a good pounding.

The caption might be appropriate since I don’t expect him to multiply.

 RetrenchedApril 25, 2013 1:40 PM

Every time I see that gay looking rabbit that song gets stuck in my head.

 LudovicApril 25, 2013 1:42 PM

You did say we are living in the post-parody era.

 patrick kellyApril 25, 2013 1:42 PM

“He sure seems like the type of guy who posts pictures of rainbows and small animals to his livejournal.”

Hey, I gotz bunnies and butterflies as my windoze wallpaper to balance out all the rage and dispair.

Whiskey also helps.

 JCclimberApril 25, 2013 1:42 PM

Vox,
can you modify the post a little? It doesn’t actually mention his name in the text, and the rabbits may not count it toward the total needed for their donations.

I mean, don’t you care about the gay black female orphan girls getting their maximum donations from the rabbits?

 MattApril 25, 2013 1:47 PM

Vox, this is just cruel. He’s practically an exhibit at a Victorian-era freak show, except his deformity is self-inflicted.

 tzApril 25, 2013 1:48 PM

I don’t think he would hurt either himself or others, at least not physically. That is the entire point.

Every so often a movie comes out that is so bad I want to root for the bad guys because the protagonist is just so stupid, annoying, and/or reckless that you want him to lose life, limb, or property as the storyline is screaming to heaving that such would be a just outcome.

I never thought life would imitate art in this case.

But I do remember the comments of those who know nothing of the controversy when they first see the image. “Creepy” was one of the responses.

Marvel nor DC comics has ever had a mutant whose superpower was to be a universal victim.

This is in your face “I want you to do something bad to me so I can whine and moan and complain”.

Masochism without the Eros, and at the level of the intellect.

We haven’t seen the back of the shirts, but it would not be inconsistent if there were letters asking “Kick Me!”.

Can you be a victim if you induce someone to engage? (I don’t mean the feminist postaldeconstructionism or whatever they call their insane rantings and ravings, I mean those who lack both insanity and imbecility).

 JCclimberApril 25, 2013 1:49 PM

Agree and amplify done all wrong.

The real problem is that agree and amplify only works if you have the alpha mindset already embedded in your bones. And the alpha mindset would ensure that no one would ever get the neckhole of a shirt like that over your head. Much less voluntarily wearing it for an interview.

I must admit that this is much more amusing to me than is properly christian. I suppose I should pity the poor deluded little gamma, but I seem to be lacking the proper amount of christian charity.

 TadApril 25, 2013 1:49 PM

I’d bang him.

 MattApril 25, 2013 1:49 PM

And his shirt is wildly oversized in the shoulders, which on his frame is an egregious inadvertent cultural gamma signifier even without the shirt’s actual content.

 RINOApril 25, 2013 1:51 PM

Also, his shirt is at least one size too big.

He’s likely anticipating iminent weight gain.

 VDApril 25, 2013 1:56 PM

He does look like he’s lost a chin. Clearly all the angst and stress has been good for him.

 IM2L844April 25, 2013 1:59 PM

Oh my. Just watched the video…I’d never seen him speak before. How can his wife not realize he’s closeted? Or is he out now?

 tzApril 25, 2013 1:59 PM

I must admit that this is much more amusing to me than is properly christian. I suppose I should pity the poor deluded little gamma, but I seem to be lacking the proper amount of christian charity.

This is like watching someone who is falling down drunk – it is very comical, yet is self-induced. Like alcoholism, he has to hit rock bottom for there to be any hope, but his codependent warren keeps affirming him and his esteem. Pity is not proper for those who voluntarily become whatever you find pitiable.

Realize that for him to be saved, something far more comic and painful will have to occur than has so far, but things appear to be progressing nicely.

 SaltApril 25, 2013 2:02 PM

And to think, he’s president of SFWA.

Conan the Cimmerian, King of AquiloniaApril 25, 2013 2:04 PM

He is a “catcher” and not a “pitcher”, obviously.

 Outlaw XApril 25, 2013 2:04 PM

I’d bang him.

You can’t he has colon cancer and his butt has been sowed up. You could try banging his stoma. Jeeze you are sick, I can match your two pair with a full house.

Conan the Cimmerian, King of AquiloniaApril 25, 2013 2:05 PM

I swear I saw him and his boyfriend on an episode of House Hunters that Mrs. Cimmerian was watching.

 BeauApril 25, 2013 2:05 PM

John Scalzi – the literary Honey Boo Boo.

Both he and Honey Boo Boo are products of the Female Imperative.

 ThalesApril 25, 2013 2:08 PM

Or is he out now?

He’s out now…whether he knows it or not…

Conan the Cimmerian, King of AquiloniaApril 25, 2013 2:10 PM

He should just come out of the closet and stop with the lavender/sham marriage.

 Aeoli PeraApril 25, 2013 2:10 PM

CynicAle used “quixotic” more perspicaciously than he probably realized. Our generation needs a Cervantes to lampoon the genre of white knight fairy tales.

 LP 999/ElizaApril 25, 2013 2:11 PM

Recall, “Life is life”…what a hilarious pic, love it. Cutesy.

 JIApril 25, 2013 2:14 PM

That’s John Scalzi? How sad. Poor guy does not look happy.

 RobertTApril 25, 2013 2:17 PM

That’s not wallpaper, that’s hanging cloth. And he’s wearing a mic. So the entire layout is: he’s sitting in front of an audience, in front of a goofy background, wearing that shirt, giving a talk or responding to questions. Maybe the L stands for lesbian. It’s certainly not a Rotary club.

 FerdApril 25, 2013 2:21 PM

As Sheldon is wont to do…John is waiting, in his fav chair, for a time machine to come scoop him up and transport him to the future!!

 DanielApril 25, 2013 2:21 PM

Whoa.

Now you have taken to dressing him.

Not unlike how Hannibal Lecter might dress a “turkey.”

Apparently undressing him in public wasn’t good enough for you? Why do you do continue to force him into these corners?

McRapey is not your personal Barbie doll to manipulate and pose. He’s man, dammit, with feelings and at least a partially intact uterus.

It is interesting that he literally appears on the other side of the human division.

 Noah B.April 25, 2013 2:22 PM

Not quite enough creep factor. T-shirt needs a caption: “Are feeling Rapey too?”

 BungholioApril 25, 2013 2:24 PM

He looks like he was just propositioned.

 Henry GeorgeApril 25, 2013 2:30 PM

His expression says: “THIS is my royalty check for Redshirts? Hon, is Barnes & Noble still hiring baristas?”

 ScintanApril 25, 2013 2:33 PM

Seriously, how does he not see it?

 DanielApril 25, 2013 2:34 PM

Can you even begin to imagine the horror that his last victim felt, being intimately violated while staring at that half-naked groping cartoon rabbit the entire time?

Or, maybe, just maybe, she lucked out, and instead he left the shirt on.

Conan the Cimmerian, King of AquiloniaApril 25, 2013 2:35 PM

Let me correct that for you Daniel,

Or, maybe, just maybe, he lucked out, and instead he left the shirt on.

 Protect the WarrenApril 25, 2013 2:38 PM

Now I understand what the wabbit is saying –

“STOP! Have you been tested lately?”

 Ah, manApril 25, 2013 2:40 PM

Everything is falling into place.

 DanielApril 25, 2013 2:40 PM

Huh, he said his victims were women. Is “women” a code word something? I can’t imagine him overpowering any males, except the smallest of children.

What are you suggesting?

 daddynicholApril 25, 2013 2:41 PM

From the mildly pained expression his face, I think he’s sitting on his adult baby potty training chair trying to pass a huge one.

Yeah, I know that pretty junior high, but I feel especially snarky today.

 PorkyApril 25, 2013 2:42 PM

I like him.

Then again I like colostomy bags.

 DanielApril 25, 2013 2:49 PM

“Hi!” writes Scalzi, “I’m a rapist. I’m one of those men who likes to force myself on women without their consent or desire and then batter them sexually.”

It is an interesting construct of the rape process. Scalzi does it in two phases:

1) forcing himself on women (without consent, as opposed to all those non-rapists who force themselves on women with consent)

2) battering them sexually

(one presumes step 3 is …profit!)

Nevertheless, is he incapable somehow of battering with the force he uses in step 1? It seems his rapes are exceedingly delicate affairs of violence, in that sexual battery follows sexual force, and is not part and parcel of it.

Perhaps he means “batter” in another sense.

For a rapist, he sure uses a lot of indirect language.

In the future, he should let the rabbit explain his rapes.

A Real Scalzi Fan. Not Sigyn. Nope, not even close.April 25, 2013 2:52 PM

OMG this cyberbullying must stop at once! Can’t you see that he’s wasting away from the stress and misery? He can’t eat, can’t sleep, can’t rape…

WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU RSHD’s!?

You probably all have really small penises, but you’ll never prove otherwise because I’d never sleep with any of you. Take THAT!!!

 Ginseng KhanApril 25, 2013 2:54 PM

Ah, the ol’ Vox/Scazli Feud.  We have to define what “winning” means.  If it means “appearing petty and obsessive” a point goes to Vox.  If it means “giving no indication that one is still aware his nemesis even exists” then a point to Scalzi.

Mr. Zero Star Rating From Amazon.comApril 25, 2013 2:55 PM

Scalzi never rapes boys or black people. He’s a homophobic, racist dipshit.

 SigynApril 25, 2013 2:56 PM

…I think I hurt myself…

 MarkkuApril 25, 2013 2:57 PM

If it means “giving no indication that one is still aware his nemesis even exists” then a point to Scalzi.

What a fascinating claim, considering that both gamma and rabbit are terms that are unique to Vox.

 Nite OwlApril 25, 2013 2:58 PM

Marvel nor DC comics has ever had a mutant whose superpower was to be a universal victim. – tz

I do remember the story in the “Watchmen” movie about the would-be villain demanding the heroes to punish him. Apparently, Rohrschach complies by tossing him down an elevator shaft.

 A. ManApril 25, 2013 3:01 PM

Let me get this straight. I look up this guy and it turns out he’s among the top 100 authors on Amazon. His latest Sci fi book is #5000 overall on amazon. A book that isn’t even in circulation yet ranks at 3000 on Amazon. Vox Day isn’t ranked among Amazon’s best selling authors and his latest book comes in ranked just below 900,000.

So, he’s ranks and ladders and levels above Vox Day in their chosen profession and genre in terms of success and popularity and he’s being mocked?

How interesting.

 Ah, manApril 25, 2013 3:02 PM

” If it means “giving no indication that one is still aware his nemesis even exists” then a point to Scalzi”

“Giving no indication”? Which, of course, is why in interviews he wears a t shirt which exists solely because of the dustup between him and VD.

 MarkkuApril 25, 2013 3:02 PM

A. Man: Couldn’t help but notice that the saddled dinosaur picture you were bitching about the other day was uploaded by one John Scalzi. Just a coincidence, I’m sure.

 A. ManApril 25, 2013 3:04 PM

“”Giving no indication”? Which, of course, is why in interviews he wears a t shirt which exists solely because of the dustup between him and VD.”

It looks to me like he’s having his own fun with Vox Day and the one dong the real mocking. It is after all a shot of him being interviewed by the LA Times, whereas Vox Day is chirping on about the man by invitation of … well, his own blog.

I think Scalzi wins.

 Nite OwlApril 25, 2013 3:04 PM

Closest thing I could find inside a minute of searching.

++++

Also:

If it means “giving no indication that one is still aware his nemesis even exists” then a point to Scalzi.

Way to go, Russian judge. I think wearing message apparel that the nemesis psychically designed in honor of Scalzi’s crimes against women is “no indication” then I agree with you.

John Scalzi is Nadia Comaneci.

 SigynApril 25, 2013 3:13 PM

So, he’s ranks and ladders and levels above Vox Day in their chosen profession and genre in terms of success and popularity and he’s being mocked?

Judge a man’s worth by his popularity. Way to go, A. Rabbit!

…By the way, doesn’t this mean that you’re a COMPLETE loser here, since nobody likes you?
