Lisa Spangenberg Helps Author P.N. Elrod Beg for Money from Authors . . . It’s a Dog’s World

In Lisa L. Spangenberg, P.N. Elrod, Preditors & Editors, PublishAmerica, Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers Association, The Write Agenda, Uncategorized, Writer Beware, Writers on March 29, 2014 at 9:38 pm

So, the “multi-talented” P.N. Elrod’s royalty income doesn’t meet her life expenses. Begging from authors; not cool. You can read all about it here. Think about it . . .  if she was really so damn “multi-talented,” she wouldn’t have to beg you for money. This whole saga is reminiscent of stupid people that should not procreate. Likewise, some stupid people should not own pets especally if you cannot afford to care for them in the first place; to wit:

  • Ongoing medical concerns due to old age.
  • A sudden onset of canine vestibular disorder shot the vet bills up into 4-figure territory last spring.
  • Elrod did crowd funding to pay that down, but did not raise the full amount.
  • P. N. Elrod has 2 mortgages
  • Fuzzy, “the dog,” had to have eye surgery in August.
  • She, Fuzzy the dog, had mineralizing keratopathy — holes in her corneas — and needed a conjunctival free graft to cover them. It was that or both her eyeballs would rupture–that was the word the vet used, rupture–and she would be in extreme pain and lose both eyes.
  • But the vet bill tripled. P.N. Elrod claims that it’s more than she gets for an advance on a book.

P.N. Elrod cannot afford this medical care for her beloved pet . . .  and that’s where you come in author. We’re sure you have your own “critique” of Elrod’s pathetic venture; let her know how you feel.

It seems that it would be the better part of wisdom to either put Fuzzy to sleep or give it to someone that CAN pay the medical bills. Begging authors for money for your dog is just as pathetic as begging authors to defend a lawsuit against you!

It’s so damn ironic that people like Spangenberg & Elrod will complain about scams perpetrated against authors. Yet, they think that it’s OK to beg authors for money to care for a damn dog. Read on  . . . this isn’t their first SCAM,

Robert Fletcher, CEO, Successfully Overcomes Damaging Allegations and Declares that Settlement is a Victory When Dealing with any Government Agency.

“Anytime a business settles litigation with a government agency with no admission of guilt and no violation of the law, it can be considered a victory,” said Robert Fletcher, the CEO of a group of companies that have been dealing with government litigation for over six years.

“Unfortunately, most consumers believe that litigation equals guilt, but that simply isn’t true.  This suit should never have been filed,” Mr. Fletcher continued. “If the litigation had any merit, they would have pushed it harder and not taken six years to deal with it.  Furthermore, the attorney who filed against us was asked to leave her job for ethical and competency issues.  Mr. Fletcher went on to say that, “settlement was the best action for our constituents as it allows us to concentrate on the future and not continue to pour money down the legal drain hole of America’s quasi-political legal process. Most importantly, we want our authors to realize that this litigation did not include our current businesses.  The suit was only directed at older companies that had a completely different business model and had already been dissolved”.

Mr. Fletcher concluded by looking to the future. “With this settlement, our family of authors and employees can rest assured that our business principles are sound and fair.  I am extremely happy for our authors, clients, and employees who have had to deal with the uncertainties of this misguided litigation for the last six years.  We have now formally put this behind us and we feel stronger than ever.  Let’s get back to business.  We have our clients’ books to publish and sell and distribute around the world.  And we would like any potential client that turned away from us because of this issue to please reconsider joining us.”

Therefore, the witch hunt perpetrated by Victoria Strauss, Ann “A.C.” Crispin, Writer Beware and the SFWA has been discredited; the The Florida Attorney General is NOT ACTIVELY collecting complaints and information.

So, the question is, will Robert Fletcher again pursue legal action against Victoria Strauss, SFWA, Writer Beware & others?

This is quite comical and on the verge of paranoia. Cleo Voght, whoever you are, please contact us confidentially here. LOL. Northern Indiana? Miss Vicky must be sharing an IV with the soon to be DEAD Ann “A.C.” Crispin. Seriously Victoria?

  • We’ve never contacted you . . . we have our own blog; we will FREELY continue to challenge you here.
  • True, you are not a “very-successful author.” Your books suck! True?
  • You DO bash people without facts. PROVEN
  • “Most of your bullshit is just a bitch with an angry opinion.” AGREE!
  • You are NOT a best-selling author. PROVEN!

These statements that have been attributed to The Write Agenda by the delusions of Victoria Strauss are nothing new; we’ve proudly made similar statements about Victoria Strauss. The author of this email never stated that he/she was affiliated with The Write Agenda. However, Victoria Strauss somehow attributed it to The Write Agenda. There would be no reason for The Write Agenda to contact Victoria Strauss covertly . . . we do it here on thewriteagenda.wordpress.com. May this serve as another example of Victoria Strauss, Ann “A.C.” Crispin & Writer Beware posting false information.

And, why is Victoria Strauss suddenly in “protective” mode? Ponder friends . . . do ponder.

2013 SFWA ELECTION COVERAGE: You Have to Love Theodore Beale . . . Speaking the Truth

In 2013 SFWA Elections, 2013 SFWA Presidential Election, Jim C. Hines, John Scalzi, P.N. Elrod, Passion Blew, PASSION BLEW II: The Case Against Victoria Strauss, Passion Blew!: Scamming the John Steinbeck Estate: The Case Against Attorney Charles E. “As a result of my campaign for SFWA president, I have spent the last two months in the bowels of the SFWA forums. What I have seen is that the writers who make up the SF/F community are, to an almost unbelievable extent, delusional.  They genuinely believe they are faster when they have been winning races because a vast quantity of other runners have been barred from even lining up in the blocks to run against them.  They genuinely believe that they are special beings with a superior morality, and at the same time, assert that their ideological views are shared by all the decent members of civil society. And they are very nasty pieces of work, bitter from their long experience of social exclusion and their lowly positions on the socio-sexual totem pole.  They are full of hatred themselves, which is why they see hate in even the most genuine and harmless differences of opinion.

Most of all, they have no ability to conceive of the mere possibility of separating the personal from the political. They attempt to destroy those who disagree with them or cause them to suffer embarrassment; recall that McRapey’s charity campaign wasn’t an attempt to stop me from trolling his blog or to advance any racist, sexist, or homophobic causes, it was to try to stop me from simply mentioning him because I dared to directly quote him and taunt him for his eminently tauntable words. I did nothing more than do to him what he prides himself on doing to others; you all know what resulted from that.

Nearly two decades ago, a member of the SFWA told me that the battles within science fiction were so bitter because the stakes were so small. But I think he was wrong. It’s more than that. The battles are so bitter because SF/F is largely comprised of gamma males and unattractive women who are very bitter people.  They are openly bitter about their lots in life. They are deeply angry with the world as they have experienced it. The books they write, for the most part, are their wish fulfillment fantasies, places where they finally have the chance to say what they didn’t have the wit to say when it mattered and be the people they couldn’t manage to become in real life. This is why, despite being technically more proficient in some ways, their work is so observably inferior to the science fiction and fantasy of earlier ages that concerned itself with ideas of more grandeur and societal import than the retro-adolescent daydreams of socio-sexually unsuccessful former junior high school students.

I commend Sarah for her graciousness in attempting to warn those who have repeatedly done their best to professionally shun her and undermine her career. But I can tell her that it will not work; I attempted to do something similar in my current campaign for SFWA President. But my warnings about the coming collapse of the traditional professional publishing business of SF/F – which you will note preceded the failure of Night Shade Books – was met with little more than the usual sneers and rabbits shrieking ‘not-rabbit, not-rabbit’!”

– Theodore Beale

Part IV: Organizational Partisanship & Biasness – The Need for Change Within the SFWA

Part 4 of 4

Death and life are in the power of the tongue.

Proverbs, 18:21

Another necessary concern regarding the SFWA 2013 Elections to consider is the ongoing negative blog postings relative to Theodore Beale. As stated previously, the negativity is reaching the level that caused the Bauer vs. Glatzer[1] lawsuit. What’s next on the horizon?

Will the Defendants in the Bauer case and their minions create a list of the “20 Worst Candidates for SFWA for SFWA President”?

Will the Defendants in the Bauer case and their minions create YouTube videos to humiliate Theodore Beale?

Will the Defendants in the Bauer case and their minions resort to the same tactics that led to the lawsuit against them?

Will the Defendants in the Bauer case and their minions resort to boycotts of Theodore Beale’s books?

Will the Defendants in the Bauer case and their minions resort to creating a “Thumbs Down” list for SFWA candidates that they deem undesirable?

Many of these individuals have already had their fair share of lawsuits and cease & desist requests.  However, there is a very qualified difference here. As an example, what Bauer vs. Glatzer lacked in terms of prosecution, it made up for in terms of customary (anticipated) blogger commentary and potential liability; unfortunately most of them have not learned their lesson yet. Moreover, new case law is always being developed regarding this kind of activity and the Teflon is getting thinner. Someone with in this group of mashuganas is going to eventually take the fall . . .  and it’s going to be a big fall.

It will be interesting to watch how this continues to play out . . . both pre-election and post election. Could Theodore Beale consider possible legal action against these Internet posters? Will it be another Cretella v. Kuzminski (i.e. The Case Against Preditors & Editors David L. Kuzminski)? Will it reach this level? Are slander and defamation actions imminent? Could Beale establish a claim for loss of opportunity?

It’s interesting to ponder these scenarios; even if they are hypothetical. However, generally speaking, most of the comments currently being made by independent bloggers would most likely not be cloaked with the protections of the Communication Decency Act (CDA 230) which protected Wikipedia but not necessarily the remaining defendants in the Bauer case; nor did it completely exonerate them.

No man [woman] is an island, entire of itself, every man [woman] is a piece of the continent, a part of the main.

William Blake

In Part III of this series, we indicated that John Scalzi was no Moses. By contrast, Moses gathered people together; he fused people and created a communal entity far more than a collection of individuals.

A group that gathers together can also move apart, and even while together, the union is not compete; an examination of the SFWA voting history clearly supports the notion that it has become segregated. There doesn’t appear to be any spirit of unity. What, if anything, binds and unifies the members of the current SFWA? How defunct is an organization where its President (Scalzi) is elected on only 11% of the entire possible vote?

Moses was the epitome of self-transcendence; every aspect of his being was committed to others. He was able to inspire transcendence. Moses has been described as a shepherd. He infused harmony even when facing different factions or contrary opinions. The establishment of unity among the membership is essential to the health of organization. The more that a leader is able to develop his/her own harmony, he/she will be more open to others and be willing to relate to them as equals. This will encourage the expression of the inner bond that all members should share . . .  versus being in a constant state of discord. What motivates a leader to rise above their personal agendas? A leader’s service should begin with marshalling the different aspects of their own being first. Then, and only then, can the organization work towards unity and harmony.

Let his days be few; and let another take his office.

Psalm 109, v8

The dreadful reign of John Scalzi is finally coming to an end. Selah! Change is also coming to the SFWA. The pending election will either result in “sweeping” change or simply a change in leadership. This is not merely a promise; this is something that can be anticipated today. Regardless of who may ultimately win the 2013 SFWA Presidential Election, Theodore Beale or Steven Gould, either of them has the potential to establish a new harmony within the organization (SFWA) and to spread that harmony among the membership. Moreover, both candidates have the opportunity to create sweeping changes within the SFWA and shed the tarnished image left by the Scalzi and his minions:

“Scalzi, current president of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, responded by calling [Beale], ‘a jackass, and a fairly ignorant jackass at that.’”

Queerty, Free of an Agenda, Except that Gay One

SFWA members: this year it’s IMPORTANT to vote in the upcoming officer elections. Theodore Beale, a.k.a. Vox Day, is running for SFWA President. If you know the name, you’ll know why that’s scary. If you don’t, read the post below… My cat would be the better choice. And my cat is dead. [Emphasis added]

 Victoria Strauss on Facebook 2/1/13

If he did win, he’d be like the dog that caught the car–Holy shit. This wasn’t supposed to happen. What do I do now?

Victoria Strauss

Elections, and organizational change, represent the opportunity to search. The need to search is not a choice but a necessity. The search is personal (i.e. within the SFWA membership) as well as institutional. The process of searching gives all members the opportunity to take corrective measures (voting), find what is missing and identify the needs of the organization.

I’ve never expected SFWA to do anything for me because I require nothing from it. However, I have the luxury of regarding my membership as an affectation; other members of SFWA might actually want it to do something useful for them. I happen to think SFWA can be useful; I happen to think it doesn’t do a particularly good job of being useful.[Emphasis added]

John Scalzi

Contrary to John Scalzi’s dogma, dues-paying members of any organization do expect something in return; something far beyond a mere “affection.” Organizations have a purpose to establish a “commonwealth” . . .  something for the greater good . . . for its members, not something that an elected official can be half-heartedly dedicated to. Admitted, Scalzi was honest about this point and where his priorities stood:

I’ve been a SFWA member long enough to know that it’s a fairly thankless position, with lots of herding cats and dealing with aggravating minutiae, and I have a career to look after at the moment. [Emphasis added]

 –         John Scalzi

***

Shaming another in public is like shedding blood.

Talmud, v6

In conclusion, the huge difference in these organizational elections is that they do not include political parties . . . they involve people . . . human beings. Accordingly, they should be civil and partisan. This particular race for SFWA President is turning into something very political . . . with the same cast of characters showing their true colors again. However, it’s unique that the negative attacks are being waged against one of their own . . . Theodore Beale. Theodore Beale’s only crimes are that he writes controversial pieces and that he disagrees with John Scalzi. Being controversial is nothing new when it comes to past (or present) SFWA Presidents. Why is it such a big issue now? Unfortunately, this whole ordeal is making Scalzi and his minions look like a bunch of schlemiels.

“Scalzi, current president of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, responded by calling [Beale], ‘a jackass, and a fairly ignorant jackass at that.’”

Queerty, Free of an Agenda, Except that Gay One

John Scalzi had the opportunity to stand up (for once) and demonstrate that he had true leadership qualities. Criticism and contrary opinion are to be expected for elected officials . . .  Scalzi doesn’t appear to have learned that lesson. Instead, in a very farcical move, Scalzi has rose up in opposition to Beale by publically endorsing Steven Gould; not a very “Presidential” maneuver when an unbiased stance would have given him the appearance of being a leader. However, Beale has given us all a glimpse of how “Presidential” he is. We do not ever recall an outgoing president of the SFWA to have ever publically endorsed one candidate over the other. Again, John Scalzi never was and never will be a Moses.

People join organizations, such as the SFWA, to have a voice, to be represented and to be members of a group. This 2013 election is the perfect time to deliver the SFWA from the mindsets of the likes of Scalzi and readjust so that it can take on a more purposeful mindset. In choosing our leaders, we should not select only those who are like us in temperament and personality. Nor should we choose only those who act in a certain way that we find agreeable to our personal lives and acceptable standards. In selecting the next SFWA President you will have to abandon your proneness to conformity and/or complacency.

Educate yourself and vote accordingly . . .  but DO VOTE and encourage other SFWA members to vote.

Tip toe on rice paper to the North
On fire the ziti again delicately above
Our heads dial earth . . . our heads dial earth . . . our heads dial earth!
For him who sausage loves . . .  As pages turn back and forth

Loath near Boston to spill Chilly Winter
Somehow we didn’t care about that cat’s meow
Moored among the coasters and lighters
Feathers from the ducks we will borrow . . .  Walking the streets of Amherst within its glitter

A golden arch snowing
And we think this is all very tiring
And you  . . .  a white wolf’s head was stroking
And that dog poop rose in the mourning
Near where the river is flowing

Black walnuts are black vermin spill
But nothing was as valuable throughout
Due to his lawyer we get nothing from his will
Dadadaadada….WORK IT out!!
And return to the battle of Bunker Hill

Jump from the tower if Yog’s Law is true
Hence, We should have all grew
We stuck together, our love was the glue
As red told pink “I’m always true blue”
We’d rather be grey, but We can’t speak for you
. . . ’cause We have nothin’ else ta do

Even if you don’t see the point
Somebody dear Writer  . . . look beneath you.
Goga, Oh Goga, Oh what do you do?
No one, not even the rain, has such a big butt
Yet the gnome we seek to anoint

Boogy woogy in the deep dark wilds of the Bahamas
Colors bleed of reds, pinks and blues
Searching there under will reveal the true agendas
Open the doors to all haciendas and . . .
There  . . .  yes there you will find thy people therein
Lounging in red, pink and blue pajamas

BISAC: Literary Criticism / American / GeneralIt (Writer Beware™) purports that it “shines a bright light into the dark corners of the shadow-world of literary scams, schemes, and pitfalls.” Selectively? Maybe? Sure, until the scam strikes at home base.In 2007 it did; and, it’s a SCAM of EPIC proportions. It involves the estate of Pulitzer Prize and Nobel Prize winning author John Steinbeck (i.e. The Grapes of Wrath (1939) and East of Eden (1952) and the novella Of Mice and Men (1937) . . . yes, that Steinbeck. Huge? We think so. Was the failure of Writer Beware™ to report this scam an oversight or a case where they just turned their heads and looked the other way? What did this scam involve? In principle, it’s the kind of material that Writer Beware™ built its foundation on. Exposing scams that are relative to: 1) engaging in conduct involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit, or misrepresentation; 2) breaching fiduciary duties to a client; 3) obtaining an unreasonable fee; and 4) engaging in conduct which tends to defeat the administration of justice or to bring the courts or the legal profession into disrepute. These are the types of claims that spawned Writer Beware™ and its own version of their boycotts; otherwise known as their “Thumbs Down” lists. It’s time for the “bright light” to shine into the “dark corners of the shadow-world” of Victoria Strauss, Ann “A.C.” Crispin, Writer Beware™ and the Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers (SFWA). There’s one name we will not see on any Writer Beware ™ list and we’ll let you decide exactly why that happened. He represented “people who claimed they were defrauded.” He also goes by “Jaws” on some of the infamous writer and author awareness blogs. He was also known as the “Authors Lawyer.” His ties to the Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers (SFWA), Writer Beware™, Ann “A.C.”Crispin and Victoria Strauss are well documented; he worked “closely” with them and had frequent correspondence with Teresa Nielsen-Hayden. He called Victoria Strauss a “colleague.” Who was this highly lauded “scamhunter”? Charles Emil Petit. Also known as Charles E. Petit, Charlie Petit and/or C.E. Petit. AKA “Jaws.”Charles E. Petit is also believed to be an Absolute Write contributor and frequent commenter on Writer Beware ™. Confidential sources indicated to The Write Agenda that, at one time, all complaints and “cease & desist” letters regarding Writer Beware™ were to be directed to Charles E. Petit. On information and belief, it appears that he did accept service of process for several defendants in the Bauer vs. Glatzer in 2007. Petit never actually represented any of the defendants. He couldn’t because he’s not licensed in New Jersey. He did accept service and then referred the case to local New Jersey attorneys. He was subjected to disciplinary action, by the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission, after a complaint was filed by Nancy Steinbeck who was the former wife of John Steinbeck IV, the son of author John Steinbeck. As of this writing, Charles E. Petit has not made any effort at restitution or returning the fees that he collected from Nancy Steinbeck.

Tate Publishing & Enterprises, LLC Slams Author P.N. Elrod With a “Another” Cease & Desist Order

In A.C. Crispin, Absolute Write, Absolute Write Water Cooler, Ann "A.C." Crispin, Ann Crispin, Cease & Desist, David L. Kuzminski, MacAllister Stone, Making Light, P.N. Elrod, Preditors & Editors, Richard Tate, Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers, Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers Association, SFWA, Tate Publishing, Teresa Nielsen Hayden, The Write Agenda, Victoria Strauss, Writer Beware, Yog's Law on January 11, 2013 at 2:14 am

An anonymous source has advised The Write Agenda™ (TWA) that Author P.N. Elrod was hit with “another” cease and desist order.

Apparently, numerous Tate Publishing authors, with Facebook and other electronic services, provided information to Tate Officials which were sent to them from Author P.N. Elrod.  Tate’s Officials and legal team apparently followed Author P.N. Elrod’s activities on line for several months and gathered more than enough documentation to proceed with a civil action against her.

Apparently, Author P. N. Elrod was advised that should she continue her harassment, Tate Publishing would file suit immediately and use the alleged defamatory and inappropriate material against her and her web hosting company in Monterey, California (they would also be named in the lawsuit if required).

The anonymous source further indicated that Tate Publishing & Enterprises, LLC monitored Author P.N. Elrod’s activities and has complete records of each alleged statement of libel and defamation she has made against the company.  In addition, Tate Publishing apparently also has several authors who wish to be included in the lawsuit against Author P.N. Elrod for contacting them with incorrect, harassing and defaming information allegedly beyond opinion without credible facts.

TWA’s anonymous source stated that Tate Publishing is also aware of additional web site operations which Author P.N. Elrod apparently frequents and observes her statements of libel there as well.  Apparently, Tate’s legal team advised Author P.N. Elrod that that if her actions continue they will contact the legal department with Facebook about her actions, which may violate their standards.

TRW’s source stated that Author P.N. Elrod was given an ultimatum. In order to avoid civil action being filed against her the following was requested to be made within five (5) business days and confirmation to Tate’s legal team’s office: 1) Immediately stop contacting Tate staff, authors and prospective authors concerning Tate Publishing with her alleged defamation of their company and staff; and 2) Delete all current posts on the world-wide web concerning Tate Publishing and do not make any future posts.

TWA’s anonymous source indicated that Author P.N. Elrod sent back a certified copy of the letter noting that she has complied with all the demands. TWA has confirmed that the blogs/post have been removed. Apparently, no further action will be taken by Tate at this time.

TWA’s anonymous source indicated that Tate Publishing has taken this action and is preparing more legal action to those who have made such statements without credible facts.

Stay tuned!

Note: P.N. Elrod? Yes, her, she indicated that the SFWA has individuals that can “hack” accounts? See our post at:
